Dreams that seem to anticipate future events: coincidence or something else?
Have you ever had a dream that later seemed to correspond with a real event? Many people report dreams that later appear to match real events. Sometimes this involves dreaming about a specific situation and then encountering something similar days or months later. Psychologists often suggest memory reconstruction. When a later event happens, people may reinterpret an earlier dream and remember it as more specific than it originally was. However, some researchers in parapsychology have also explored the idea of precognitive dreaming. One of the most famous experiments was conducted by Stanley Krippner and Montague Ullman at the Maimonides Dream Laboratory in the 1960s and 1970s. In these studies, participants slept in a laboratory and were asked to dream about randomly selected target images. Some results suggested that dream content occasionally corresponded with the target image more often than expected by chance. More recent discussions also appear in: Mossbridge & Radin (2018) - Precognition as a form of prospection Bem (2011) - experiments suggesting retroactive influence in cognition Most mainstream researchers remain sceptical and argue that coincidence and selective memory explain most cases. Still, dreaming about future events is one of the most commonly reported anomalous experiences. What is your take? Have you come across any scientific research on this?
