Why are NDE stories so emotionally intense?

The thing that stands out to me with near death experiences isn’t only the light tunnel stuff. It’s how people talk about being changed afterwards. Less fear of death, more patience, different priorities. Maybe that’s what happens after any major trauma, I don’t know. But it feels like an important part of the phenomenon that gets skipped sometimes.
